Collaborating again with designer Matt Titchener, we entered another design contest in 2006 under the name of April3rd. This time the contest was designing the user interface for Tor, a software initiative supported originally by the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory and Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF). The Tor software’s mission is to ensure the privacy and anonymity of Internet users. (The original site announcing the GUI design contest has been redesigned. You can read about the contest from an archive via the Wayback Machine.) The panel of judges included industry experts such as Edward Tufte. We were selected as one of the two winners in the first phase of the contest.
